
Keeping the Heat, Losing the Glare: A Better Way to Warm Your Bathroom
Nobody likes stepping out of a hot shower into a freezing bathroom. It’s a shock to the system. Infrared heaters are great because they give you that instant, cozy warmth, but there’s a catch: the light. If you’ve ever looked at one of those heaters, you know they can be blinding. That harsh glare isn’t just annoying—it can actually be tough on the eyes, especially for babies and kids whose eyes are still developing. We figured out a way to fix that.
How we handle the light
Most standard halogen tubes just blast every kind of light they can. It’s like a flashlight and a heater had a baby, and the result is way too bright. To stop that, we use special quartz glass with specific coatings. Think of it like a pair of high-tech sunglasses for the heater. It filters out those sharp, blue-light peaks and tones down the blinding brightness, but it doesn’t stop the heat from getting to you. You still feel the warmth, but your eyes don’t feel like they’re being attacked.
Heat isn’t about brightness
Here is the thing: heat comes from molecules vibrating, not from how bright a bulb looks. We’ve tuned these lamps to focus their energy on the infrared bands—the parts of the spectrum you can’t see but you can definitely feel. That’s why the lamp has a soft, mellow glow. It isn’t “dim” because it’s weak; it’s just putting all its effort into warming you up rather than lighting up the room like a stadium.
A few tips for the install
When you’re putting these in, where you place them matters. We suggest using recessed housing. It keeps the heating element tucked away so you aren’t staring directly at it while you’re brushing your teeth. Even with our coatings, staring straight into a 500W element for a long time is just a bad idea. One heads-up: because of those protective coatings, it might take a few seconds longer to reach full heat than a raw quartz tube would. It’s a tiny trade-off for a much safer light. Also, make sure your vents are clear. If the fixture gets too hot because it can’t breathe, the coating can wear down, and that harsh light might start creeping back in. Keep it breezy, and you’re good to go.
